Our awards programme this year features four separate categories under the ‘Innovation’ banner. This reflects the dynamic, progressive nature of our profession and recognises the talented individuals, teams, companies and partnerships who are driving the sector forward.

Many leading business figures, including the likes of Sir Richard Branson, believe that an organisation’s employees are its greatest asset and that a workforce which is engaged, motivated and empowered is more productive and provides better customer service, giving that business a competitive edge. This advantage will, in turn, increase customer loyalty and lead to greater sales and profitability. Happy staff, happy customers, happy shareholders – happy days!

I am therefore really excited to be acting as Lead Judge for the Innovation in People Development and Empowerment award. In this category we are looking for new strategic approaches to people development and empowerment that have helped to realise both individual and team potential whilst meeting an organisation’s specific needs and priorities.

It is often said that we are a people business – around 10% of the UK’s working population is employed in facilities management. With such a large workforce we know that there will be great examples of Innovation in Professional Development and Empowerment out there. Maybe within your company, your contracts, your partnerships or your team; whether in-house, a supplier or specialist service provider in the private or public sector; there is an outstanding achievement you think we should hear about.

We are looking forward to being inspired by your projects and seeing what a difference they have made to your organisation and our profession. The closing date to submit entries is Monday 29th April, so please start planning yours today.
