The IMPACT Programme, OCS Group UK

Launched in May 2018, the initiative aims to ensure that all front-line cleaning staff are delivering best practice standards and supporting their own safety and wellbeing.

Evidence showed that many cleaning operatives hit a career limit at supervisor roles.  The IMPACT programme set out to change that, offering career development from frontline staff to cleaning coach and beyond.

In a combined initiative between the cleaning experts and the L&D team, with significant input throughout the business, OCS ran three pilots at its sites to test the process before it went live.

IMPACT is ensuring that all frontline cleaning staff and supervisors deliver industry best practice standards but maintain their own safety and wellbeing. It also motivates them to progress in their careers through on-the-job training such as NVQ, BICSc and formal programmes including apprenticeships.

OCS reports happier, more consistently trained and more empowered cleaning staff and feedback from clients has been positive. IMPACT is being launched in other parts of the world and OCS wants to roll it out into other areas such as security and catering.

The judges were impressed by how the team had an abundance of ownership and passion for the initiative.
