The winner of the BIFM Lifetime Achievement Award is an individual who has made a significant and recognised contribution to facilities management over the course of their career. The contributions of the individual have had a lasting impact on the profession, and have helped to changed the course of FM for the better.

> Marilyn Standley
Marilyn Standley has been active in FM since the 1980s, taking on key roles and responsibilities within FM and BIFM itself, including becoming the very first chair of BIFM in 1992. The facilities management profession and BIFM as an institute owes a lot to Marylin and the work she did in building up the culture and professionalism around FM.
Marilyn’s long and impressive career in FM has seen her named as one of the 20 most influential women in FM of all time, as well as in the top 20 pioneers for the industry. Marilyn was also one of the founders of the WIFM SIG and currently chairs the BIFM Fellows SIG.
Some of Marilyn’s most memorable career highlights include a relocation refurbishment for Longman Publishing and her role in running the FM for the British Museum, as well as her time working independently for Ernst & Young, Sheffield University and as the FM outsourcing strategist for the Met Police.
Marilyn’s outstanding career is a fine example of how impactful FM professionals can be to major societal and professional changes. Marilyn advocacy for women in FM has also been an inspiration to many female FM professionals, and is something she believes makes you “stand out in the industry”.
Marilyn has been a formidable force in shaping and crafting the FM industry to become what it is today – she embodies everything that is progressive and exciting about the industry and is the rightful winner of the 2017 BIFM Lifetime Achievement Award.
